Video SEO: How to Tag and Title Your Videos

How to avoid being an "accidental spammer"

As of today, there is still no strong algorithm that could tag accurately by just looking at the video. Therefore it is important to identify all the major characters, create a consistent title and be transparent. Here are a few pointers from the interview with Metacafe’s CEO, Erik Hanchenburg:

  1. Title should be unique and easy to spell so that search engines can easily recognize it. Don’t put too generic titles and make sure you spell them correctly.
  2. Tagging must be comprehensive, but also transparent so that it is not considered spam. Avoid words like “Youtube” so that your videos aren’t disregarded.
  3. If you are creating content and want to monetize it in the future, keep your videos in the PG-13, so that they aren’t categorized as controversial content. Advertisers will stay away from it.
