Is it acceptable to pay for video content? |
The first wave was getting
video on the website. The second wave was monetization it and now, Brightcove's
Eric Elia suggests, that it is finally acceptable to pay for video content on
demand, thanks to wide spread use of Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV and Ipad,
the device, that changed everything.
Online video evolution is
in its third stage and has been dramatically transformed over the past year
with proliferation of tablets, connected TV's and the emergence of paid
scenarios.
Mr. Elia calls it a
"third wave" and sees vast opportunities for the new paid scenario for
video entertainment, quality instructive video and for Netflix like
subscription services in different markets.
The opportunity and
expectation of the consumer has never been greater and the technical challenges
and the fragmentation never more formidable.
