In the annual network forecast, Cisco predicts that online video consumption (including live video, produced video, animated video, motion graphics video or 2D and 3D) is expected to quadruple from 2011 to 2016. Billions of consumers worldwide will push network usage to unbelievable peaks by using more and faster devices. Here is the summary of the study:
- By year 2016 about 45% of the world’s population will be using Internet (roughly 3.4 billion users).
- Average broadband speed is due increase nearly four times, from 9 Mbps to 34 Mbps in 2016.
- Web Video is the biggest chuck of the overall expanding pie.
- Over 1.2 million video minutes (more than 2 years) are projected to travel the Internet each second according to the forecast.
- Internet ready TV’s will account for over 6% of global viewer traffic and for 18% of online video traffic.
